Should be completed by a professional installer or can be done as a DIY project.

Hi folks! Hereโ€™s how to crack on:

    1. Opening Size: Make sure your opening is a tad bigger than the skylight. For a 1000mm x 1000mm skylight, you should cut about 1010mm x 1010mm.
    2. Building the Upstand: Your upstand needs to stick out at least 150mm above the roof, and it should have a slight pitch of 8-10 degrees to stop water from gathering.
    3. Installing the Frame: Slot in a timber frame (25x50mm) just under where your skylight will sit, about 46mm below the top of your upstand for triple-glazed models.
    4. Weatherproofing: Slap some roofing material on the upstand and seal it tight with a weatherproof sealant to dodge any leaks.
    5. Setting the Skylight: Use suction cups to lower the skylight onto the upstand, and donโ€™t forget to seal the underside for extra waterproofing.

Top Tip: After popping it in, run a quick water test to check for pooling. Ensure everythingโ€™s sealed properly to keep the wet out.

Let me know if you hit any snags or need more nitty-gritty. Good luck, and cheers for adding some light to your pad!

Hi, mate! Installing a skylight on a flat roof is a proper job but totally doable with the right approach. First off, make sure your skylight is meant for flat roofs; you’ll need a model designed to handle the water runoff. Start by creating a frame (or upstand) on your roof where the skylight will sit. This needs to stick up about 150mm above the roof surface to keep things watertight.

Next, measure and cut out the opening where the skylight will go. Once you’ve got your hole, itโ€™s all about sealing and flashing. Apply a sturdy waterproof membrane around the frame, then fix your skylight in place. Most importantly, ensure you use proper flashing kits specifically made for flat roofsโ€”theyโ€™re lifesavers for preventing leaks.

Finally, double-check all your seals and use high-quality silicone to secure everything. A bead of the good stuff around the edges will help keep the elements out. And there you go, youโ€™ve got yourself a skylight! Just make sure to follow any specific instructions from the skylight manufacturer, and youโ€™ll be golden. Cheers!
